TERRAIN: This trails is not suitable for wheel or pushchairs due to to the number of field footpaths used.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION (Updated 18th January 2013)

Leave from Long Stay car park, and head towards River Parrett. Turn left. Follow riverbank, river on right, cross footbridge and continue ahead to reach Huish Bridge across River Parrett. Do Not Cross Bridge but turn left and continue along track to reach road. Turn left and immediately right and then take the first track on the left.

Q1:  Which river is mentioned on the footpath sign?

Continue along track for 300 metres to turn left through metal kissing gate and continue ahead across field to reach next kissing gate and pass through and ahead on road to reach T junction. CROSS ROAD WITH CARE and turn right along pavement to pass Eli’s Public House (Rose & Crown) on left and take the next turning on left (Pounsell Lane). Continue ahead through gate and ahead on left of field passing through two kissing gates continue straight ahead along enclosed footpath, passing through two further gates to reach railway. CROSS RAILWAY WITH GREAT CARE and keep going straight ahead passing Kelways Garden Centre on right and at gate go through kissing gate to right of gate to reach road. CROSS ROAD WITH CARE. Turn left and in 25 metres at end of wall turn right, go down steps and ahead on footpath through trees, soon fence on right. When fence stops keep going ahead to reach tarmac road. Ahead to junction. Turn right.

Q2: What is the name on the building on the left?

After passing speed limit signs, turn left over stile, keep fence on left to cross next stile. Fence on left, go ahead towards farm buildings, and go through/over metal gate onto road. Turn left passing Paradise Cottage on left and continue for approx 200 metres and take right fork in road. Continue ahead for approx 1.3km ignoring all side turnings. Approx 25 metres before radio mast on left, turn left and cross stile in hedge and follow footpath around quarry to cross stile and continue down hill (can be very slippery in the wet); to reach road. CROSS MAIN ROAD WITH CARE and continue downhill on road bearing round to the left walking into Coombe village.

Continue ahead to turn right at footpath sign through gate. Continue ahead keeping hedge on right, go through gate and continue ahead on path with rhynes (streams) on both sides to next gate. Go ahead through gate, ryhne now on right only, to go ahead through two gates and ahead bearing right towards Girder Bridge crossing two sets of double gated bridges. Immediately turn left and follow along side of rhyne on right, pass under viaduct and bear left still with rhyne on right. At end of field turn right through gateway and passing wooden bridge on left ahead on gravel footpath passing town gardens on left. In 200 metres turn left through gate on footpath to reach road. Turn right, ahead to cross road at crossing. CROSS ROAD WITH CARE. Turn right, follow pavement ahead passing Riverside Cafe on other side of road, to turn left immediately before bridge over river Parrett. Follow path to river and continue with river on right. Do Not Cross Footbridge.

Q4:  Where does the Footbridge lead to?

Continue along path until large car park on left. Turn left into car park and end of walk.
